Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who died as a result of a single vehicle accident that occurred in the 300 block of Mill Stream Road in Lexington Thursday. Fisher said that the vehicle may have been in the creek it landed in overnight.

According to Coroner Fisher, Ms. April Lafay Smith, 54, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene. Fisher said that she was traveling westbound when her vehicle left the right side of the road, went down an embankment, and became partially submerged in a creek.

Smith, who was wearing a seatbelt, was found in her vehicle after it was discovered by a passing motorist at approximately 1:00 P.M. Thursday.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
