Batesburg Leesville PD to offer new, safe drug disposal options

Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. – The Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC) has teamed up with the Lexington School District 3 and the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department to provide safe options for drug disposal.

Dr. Pam S. Imm with LRADAC has provided the school district and the police department with drug disposal pouches which permanently dissolves the medication. This opportunity is provided by the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services in collaboration with Lexington County Council. This makes it safe to dispose of the medication in landfills and reduces water contamination.

Improperly discarded drugs are damaging to the environment and dangerous for our children. Each year millions of children and adults abuse prescription medication. The misuse of these drugs is a serious health concern. If you have any medication that you would like to dispose of, you may stop by the school district or the police department during normal business hours.

Chief W. Wallace Oswald says that, “Safely disposing of unused and expired medication is very important to the environment and to the safety of our children.”
