West Columbia investigators in the early stages of a reported shooting

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Investigators with the West Columbia Police Department are in the early stages of a reported shooting in the city. There is very little information available at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening. That is because this incident apparently happened within the last hour.

We do know that at least one person has been transported to Prisma’s Palmetto Richland’s campus by Lexington County EMS. That unit left the scene running to the hospital with a firefighter driving. When the ambulance arrived at the trauma center, the patient was alive. Detectives, or a senior officer, traveled behind the ambulance to preserve the chain of custody with evidence like the victim’s clothing. It is not known at this point if anyone else was injured or killed. They do have some suspect information to help them start their investigation.

Not much else is known at this time. Officers are indicating that there isn’t any danger to the general public as this does sound like a targeted incident. We have received multiple reports from the public that this incident occurred near the West Columbia Post Office. This HAS NOT been confirmed by law enforcement. We will update more as we contact the spokesperson with the department.
