South Congaree liquor store broken into in a chain of such crimes across the county

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – A package shop in South Congaree was broken into late Thursday or early Friday in what a detective described as a series of similar crimes in Lexington County. Detective D. Washington of the South Congaree Police Department said Friday that the liquor store in the Food Lion Plaza on Main Street was one of the many stores hit.

Detective Washington said that it appeared as if the thieves used a blunt object to smash their way into the store before quickly making off with an undisclosed amount of merchandise. He also said that he’s been informed by other agencies that multiple stores in the county and some Lexington County towns and cities were also targeted. Washington said via telephone Friday that he wasn’t sure exactly how many were hit but there did seem to be a pattern to the crimes. The South Congaree’s Police Department is aggressively involved in the investigation, as are other departments. They are using every means at their disposal to identify the suspects and make an arrest.

According to the detective, he hasn’t been informed of any arrest at this point by any other jurisdiction that was hit. The South Congaree department is reviewing security footage from every source around the store to identify the suspects and their vehicle.
