Generations of Chapin looking for people or groups to visit during the holidays

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – Generations of Chapin, an assisted living facility, is looking for groups or people who would just enjoy spreading a little holiday cheer. Each year, many stop by to either entertain the residents or just visit with them during the holidays.

According to Mary-Mac Richardson, Activity Director at Generations of Chapin, they are looking for church groups, kids from churches, girl or boy scout troops, and just about anyone else that will visit, sit, talk, or entertain their residents. Richardson said you don’t have to bring gifts or even have a real talent to participate. Although some do come and sing or play an instrument or show their skills on Generations’ beautiful Baby Grand piano, others come to just sit and talk. According to the staff at Generations, just a short visit can make the day special for a senior. The seniors also have lots of stories they can tell guest because many have lived through some of the most significant happenings in history.

One past visitor to Generations of Batesburg-Leesville said in the summer of 2018, he visited the facility with a young college student. “There was a lady in a wheelchair whose family had purchased a smart phone for her. She was having trouble learning to use it and asked the student to show her how to make a simple phone call. The girl, who was in her early 20s and a student at USC, stopped to help. For about twenty-minutes, she went over and over the proper way to use the phone. She helped add family members’ phone numbers into the phone’s contacts. That little attention had both the senior citizen and the young student beaming!”

Attached to this story are the open dates for the Generations of Chapin. To grab a slot, call Mary-Mac at (803) 345-1911. She can also direct you to the activity’s directors at the Irmo and Batesburg-Leesville locations if that’s closer to you.
