Edmund, SC (Paul Kirby) – Deputies from Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fishers’ office and other deputies from the sheriff’s office are investigating a death on Scenic Drive west of South Congaree. The call for help was dispatched around 4:00 p.m. Friday.
EMS, deputies, and firefighters responded to what was dispatched as a cardiac arrest. The original caller reported that a truck the patient was behind the wheel of was running, in reverse, and the subject was slumped over the steering wheel with his foot on the brake. He was reported to be unconscious and not breathing. The patient was checked by EMS but unfortunately, they found he had died before their arrival. Because his cause of death was not clear, law enforcement is treating the area as a crime scene. They will remain in that investigative mode until the coroner’s pathologist identifies the reason the man passed.
There are a number of emergency vehicles on scene. Try to avoid Scenic Drive if possible until law enforcement has concluded their investigation. Coroner Fisher may release an identity once the cause of death is determined.
