Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – Investigators with the Cayce Department of Public Safety are in the very early stages of an investigation that led to a manhunt early Friday morning. This all happened in and around The Retreat at Columbia in the 1900 block of Bluff Road. This is a small land area east of the Congaree that Cayce annexed years ago. The Retreat is billed as student housing for nearby USC and its Williams Brice Stadium.
Around 5:00 a.m. Friday, Cayce officers, with the assistance of other agencies, set up a perimeter in the area. They said that were looking for two men. One was described as a tall white male. The description for the other hasn’t been as clear. Both were said to be wearing all black and at least one had a toboggan or skull cap on.
This happened so recently, the nature of the crime hasn’t been specified. It doesn’t appear that police believe the two are still in the area or a current threat because the perimeter has been disbanded and most patrol units were released. This wouldn’t be done if there were a credible threat to people’s safety there. Cayce DPS does check this property throughout the day and night just as they do the remainder of the city.
Cayce detectives are now beginning to work through investigative measures. They have towed a vehicle to the Public Safety Complex where they could get it out the rain for processing. They have also collected other evidence from the area as well.
We will try and contact the department soon to provide more details.
