One dead following collision near Cayce

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – One person was killed in a vehicle collision in the 1900 block of Old Dunbar Road early Tuesday morning. Law enforcement officers, crews from Lexington County’s EMS, and personnel from the fire service were dispatched just after 3:00 a.m. This location is close to the I-26 overpass.

Law enforcement officers were the first to arrive on scene. They began to report the seriousness of the accident and said someone was trapped under a vehicle. There was speculation at that point that this may have been a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. That hasn’t been confirmed pending the final investigation. The road was closed by officers as more rescuers began arriving. After checking the patient on scene, medical personnel determined that the victim had not survived his injuries.

Deputy coroners from Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office were dispatched to begin their investigation. It is believed that either the Cayce Department of Public Safety or the SC Highway Patrol will oversee the collision investigation. Coroner Fisher will not release any name or further identification until she has made full notifications.
