Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Each year, millions of pints of blood are used just in the U.S. to help people in many ways. Whether they’ve had an accident, needed surgery, or they’re battling an illness, blood is often the key factor in saving lives. Although the organization does so much more, blood across the U.S. most likely comes from someone willing to donate through the American Red Cross.
There are a lot of reasons that people say they can’t donate. They think it will hurt, it takes too much time, or it’s just not convenient to go to Columbia when I’m so busy. That’s why the American Red Cross partners with lots of groups to make sure that blood drives can come into our communities making it more convenient and faster to give. Each year, Lexington County does its part when several agencies hold these events to allow their employees to give quickly and conveniently. One such agency is the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Even though no one ever expected it, one of their own was saved after a terrible accident by the grace of God, some great doctors and nurses, and blood that was donated by people just like you!
Next week, the department will hold their annual Blood Drive. It’s scheduled for Wednesday, January 15th, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. It is being held at the department’s headquarters so that it’s centrally located and easy to find. You can enter 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, SC into your GPS and it should take you right to the front door. You can even go to the events page on Facebook that has a map to show you the way.
