Lexington County deputies investigating shooting after gun purchase goes bad

Swansea SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington Sheriff’s Department investigators are looking into a shooting that sent a young man from the Swansea area to a hospital with a gunshot wound Friday night. His injuries are thought to be non life-threatening.

According to Captain Adam Myrick, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to the 500 block of Huckabee Mill Road Friday when someone dialed 911 and reported that a young man had been shot. There a man was located with a gunshot wound to his upper extremity.

Investigators interviewed the victim and others and discovered the shooting happened at another location. According to the victim, he and his brother attempted to buy a handgun from a man. The shooter pulled a firearm, snatched the money from the brother, and shot the victim before running away.

The Department’s work on the case continues.
