Lexington County firefighters extinguish mobile home fire on Fallaw Road Monday

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene of a burning mobile fire in the 600 block of Fallaw Road Monday afternoon. They were dispatched to the fire at about 1:20 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies were also there assisting with traffic control and keeping bystanders back.

When the first crews arrived, they found that about half the home was engulfed in flames. As the teams from the first truck went to work fighting the fire, a second truck laid in a large diameter supply hose from a nearby hydrant to supply the water they needed. This effectively closed Fallaw Road near Blackville Road as the crews worked.

Two fire officers were on the scene early into the fight. One took the position of the incident commander while the second acted as the safety officer. More officers responded to assist as the firefighters actively battled the blaze.

Within an hour, the fire crews had the fire under control. The still stayed on scene for some time mopping up, checking hot spots, and performing overhaul operations.

At some point, some of the firefighters must have gotten into something that contaminated their turnout gear. They had special equipment on scene used to decontaminate that protective clothing and were also cleaning firehoses and other equipment they had used. There were no injuries reported.

A fire investigator was enroute to the scene right as the fire was put out Monday afternoon. At this time, the cause of the fire hasn’t been released.
