Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lynne Fallaw, the owner of Back to Basics Driving School and mother of a Swansea High School junior, has filed to run for the open seat on Lexington School District Four’s Board of Trustees. Fallaw is also a retired law enforcement officer and SC Criminal Justice Academy instructor. She is currently an adjunct instructor for Midland’s Technical College where she teaches Criminal Justice.
Fallaw has lived with her husband Mark on Fallaw Road between Gaston and Swansea for 18 years. Mark is also a retired police officer and last worked as the chief of police of the town of North, SC. He now farms for a living on land that surrounds the small home he grew up in at the intersection of Fallaw and Blackville Roads.
Fallaw says that she is running for school board because she feels like everyone has a duty to serve their community in some way. Her driving school business keeps her busy one Saturday each month and then at other hours she schedules at her convenience. “I’m lucky that I can serve, and my schedule can be adapted as needed so I can be very involved,” she said recently.
If elected, Fallaw said that she would focus on safer schools. “I would like to see an SRO in every school in Lexington District Four. All of our schools that haven’t already been, need to be upfitted with the latest safety and security measures,” she said. “I would also like to see us develop ways to better recruit and retain high-quality teachers for our district.”
Fallaw says that she believes that it’s most important to have a positive learning environment for both teachers and students at school. “We also need to continue the work we’ve begun to improve our student’s progress toward being prepared for either a college or career path. With partnerships between the teachers, students, parents, and community we will be able to progress even further toward having our students prepared for life after they graduate high school,” Fallaw said. In closing, Fallaw said, “I believe that Lexington School District Four has done a tremendous job to date. I want to be a part of the team that takes us to the next level.”
The election is to fill the seat Doris Simmons left open when she was elected to the Town of Swansea’s council. The special election will be March 3rd, 2020. Since Simmon’s term would have expired in November of 2020, whoever successfully takes the seat in March will have to run again for reelection in the fall of this year.
