South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – Representative Mac Toole of SC House District 88, the area that includes the residents of South Congaree, Pine Ridge, Oak Grove, and parts of Lexington, Edmund, and Red Bank, announced Thursday, January 23, 2020, that he will not seek re-election to his house seat. His term ends this year. Toole has served in some political positions for more than 20-years.
Prior to serving almost 19-years in the house, he served on Lexington School District Two’s School Board of Trustees. He then was elected to serve on the Lexington County Council.
Toole said in a telephone interview with The Ledger Thursday afternoon that there comes a point in time to step away. He said that serving in the House, and in any elected position, takes a tremendous amount of your time, and he’s got some other things that he’d like to make a priority. He also has a wonderful wife, Linda, that he’d enjoy spending more time with.
Toole said that his health is good, and he’s been treated for an unspecified medical condition that is now in the past. “All my numbers are good, and I feel good, it’s not that at all. It’s just time to take a break. When I originally ran for Lexington Two’s School Board years ago, I never expected that I’d spend the next 20-years serving the public. I’ve really enjoyed it but again, it’s time to take a break.”
Toole said he’s not closing the door on future service, that’s something he’ll decide later. Right now, he’s not retiring, he’s just stepping away.
