At the Comedy Closet in West Columbia, the cure is there for what ails you!

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lord Byron was once quoted as saying, “Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine.” If that’s true, the Comedy Closet in West Columbia is fully stocked with some of the best medicine in the world; lots of laughs! The Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce helped officially welcome this business to the city Thursday afternoon with a ribbon cutting at their Meeting Street club.

The best way to find out more about the Comedy Closet is to go to one of their shows! Still not sold, you can educate yourself on what you’re getting into on their Facebook page or their website found at www.thecomedycloset.com.

According to the website, The Comedy Closet is independently owned and operated. Its owner, John Gibson, is himself a comedian who made the decision to open the club after years of success with Soda City Standup. When he began to look for the right brick and mortar location, he quickly saw the benefits of the fastest growing arts and entertainment district in the Midlands on the west bank of the Congaree. It would have been hard to find an area that was more small business friendly than West Columbia! The Meeting and State Street corridors are fast evolving into the must visit area for a night on the town with friends, family, or that special someone in your life. There’s something for people of all ages and tastes.

The Comedy Closet features great shows and artists, but they also give you the opportunity to get in there if you’ve got a few good ones in you. Ready to try your hand at making people laugh, they have an Open Mic Night every Monday. Not ready to take the stage just yet, try Comedy Bingo every Tuesday. Both start at 8:30 p.m. and the cover charge at the door is just $5.00 if you are between 18-20 years old. Anyone 21 and over gets in free. Every Wednesday there’s the Patrick and Topher Variety Showfer, and then on Fridays, the headliners begin. Most are booked for shows through Saturday night.

The weekend of January 24th, Comedy Central’s Joel Byars is featured. You can still make it Saturday. Prices and start times are on the Comedy Closet’s website (www.thecomedycloset.com). The club is booked with major artists way in advance. The Feral Hogs of Netflix fame and pro-wrestler Hacksaw Jim Dugan just to name a few. Hacksaw Jim Dugan is best known for his ever present 2”x4” in his matches and the shout of “Hooo” as the audience shouted back, “USA, USA!”

In a review of Dugan’s show written by Kenny Casanova on his website at www.kennycasanova.com/hacksaw-jim-duggan-show/, he said of Dugan, “His sense of humor & storytelling ability create a show jam-packed with action. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the crazy life of WWF superstar and the underbelly of professional wrestling as a whole.” He went on to say, “This show is a “must-see” for anyone who has ever watched wrestling.”

The Comedy Closet even has a Comedy 101 class going on right now. You can enquire about future classes at the club.

The Comedy Closet is open Monday through Saturday. The doors open at 7:00 p.m. and they go until, well until! The minimum age to enter is 18; of course, you must be 21 to purchase alcohol. There’s food available and it’s all very affordably priced. The most expensive item on the menu is only $11.00! They’ll even host private parties.

You can find the Comedy Closet located at 735 Meeting Street in West Columbia, SC. There’s a CONTACT tab on the website and you can see a full lineup of upcoming events and headliners. Remember, all that information is at www.thecomedycloset.com.
