Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – If you live in the Town of Irmo, you still have a little time to get rid of bulk items yo no longer want at no cost you . Tyler Sanitation is working with the town to continue this program through March 31st of 2020. After that date, having things like old couches, chairs, stoves and other white goods carried away by Tyler will cost you.
The Town of Irmo has had a bulk item policy since 1998. In accordance with that policy, the last two solid waste providers would haul off bulk items for $25.00 each. When Tyler Sanitation became the solid waste removal provider, they kept that fee too.
In 2017, the Town decided they would help residents clean up unwanted bulk items. Instead of the residents having to pay the $25.00, the Town began to absorb that fee inhouse. The program was originally intended to last from 12 to 15 months. This would be plenty of time for folks living in Irmo to clean up at no cost. The free program eventually got extended to 32 months. Now, the program will officially come to an end on March 31, 2020.
There are options besides throwing away bulk items. You can donate them to Goodwill and other non-profit thrift stores, give them to a friend or family member, or even list them for sale in social media or print publications to try and put a few bucks in your pocket. Some of the non-profits will even come get items that are made of metal, slightly used furniture, white goods like stoves and refrigerators, and even electronics for you.
If these aren’t viable options and you want your bulk items hauled away for free, you must do that before the March 31st deadline. You can call Tyler Sanitation at (803) 626-9000 to schedule a pick-up. Tyler only schedules these bulk pick-ups on certain Mondays; however, there are still four of those left. They are February 3rd, February 17th, March 2nd, and March 16th.
