Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from across the western region of Lexington County spent the early morning hours of Thursday fighting a structure fire off Marcellus Road west of the Town of Gilbert. They were dispatched sometime after 1:30 a.m. and many were still on the scene at 6:00 a.m.
Details are limited at this point, but we do know that the structure was destroyed by the fire. Tankers were used to shuttle water to the blaze so that crews could pour it on the burning building. Lexington County EMS had equipment and personnel on standby during the entire operation. Closer to 5:00 a.m., a tractor from Lexington County Public Works arrived to help pull the burning rubble of the building apart so that crews could finish putting the fire out.
Trucks and personnel from Gilbert, Boiling Springs, Pelion, Fairview, Lexington, Round Hill, and several other Lexington County fire stations were on the scene lending their resources and support. Other equipment and personnel were moved around to empty stations to ensure the entire county had fire coverage.
We will try and update this story with more details if they become available.
