West lanes of I-26 completely stopped by serious wreck involving fatalities Thursday afternoon

Sandy Run, SC (Paul Kirby) – A serious wreck on I-26 near the 119 mm westbound has two reported fatalities involved. This is according to emergency personnel on the scene. At just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday, all westbound lanes were at a complete standstill in that area.

There are currently very little details available regarding this collision. The Lexington County Fire Service is on the scene with a number of resources. Several Lexington County EMS units were also there. Multiple law enforcement officers were either on scene or enroute. Rescuers have also requested that a heavy wrecker from a Gaston company respond to assist.

Fatal collisions take a great deal more time to investigate. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher and her team will be involved in that as well as investigators from the SCHP. Because of this, the interstate in that direction may be closed for some time. It is suggested that anyone traveling west on the Orangeburg side of the I-77 exit get off the interstate and take an alternate route.

We will continue to update you on this collision as more information becomes available.
