Lexington County Sheriff’s Department welcomes one deputy, three reserves to their staff

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon and Chief Greg Shockley were on hand to watch new Deputy Andrew Chaves as he graduated the SC Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement Class #172 last week. He will now continue learning the basic policies and procedure of the department under a field training officer in Lexington County.

The sheriff also took the time last week to swear in new Reserve Deputies Andrew Thomas, William Gluvna and David Perez. They became members of the Receiver Deputy Training Program and began training last fall. Since they started, they’ve dedicated every Wednesday evening and all day each Saturday starting in October training.

Although these officers will have the same arrest powers as a full-time deputy, they volunteer their hours willingly without thought of compensation. Reserve deputies save Lexington County thousands of dollars annually for the hard work each of them does to assist in keeping Lexington County safe.

If you see any of these men out there on the street, a word of thanks goes a long way. Congratulation!
