Gaston police investigating stabbing that occurred at a convenience store Thursday afternoon

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Gaston police officers are in the early stages of an investigation into what led up to a stabbing that took place at a convenience store on Main Street (Hwy 321 S) that also houses the Burger King. This business is across the Highway from the Food Lion shopping center. The stabbing took place in the town Thursday afternoon.

According to Major Stephen Watkins, spokesman for the police department, after the incident occurred, police found the victim bleeding profusely from the stab wound in his upper body. Although the victim was losing a great deal of blood when police arrived, Watkins said it didn’t appear as if the wound would be life threatening.

Watkins said that at this early point in their investigation, they know is that the man was involved in a verbal altercation when a knife was pulled and things got physical. After the man was cut, officers provided first aid and assisted Lexington County EMS and fire crews until the patient could be transported. He was being treated at a local hospital later Thursday.

The victim was conscious and able to cooperate with police according to Major Watkins. He said he would let us know as soon as possible who would be charged in the incident. They would also release the exact charges that were being filed against the suspect as soon as he could. Those charges could be as serious as attempted murder.
