Dominion Energy offers trees for Lake Murray residents to enhance shoreline

Cayce, SC - Lake Murray property owners had the opportunity to pick up free trees for planting along the shoreline. Dominion Energy offered up to five varieties of saplings this month for property owners to plant along the lakeshore.

The Lake Murray Shoreline Habitat Enhancement Project tree giveaway was held Feb. 28-Feb. 29. Pickup was at the Dominion Energy recreation park at 1797 N. Lake Drive in Lexington.

Lake property owners were able to select a maximum of three trees from a variety of species. The varieties include Bald Cypress, Southern Wax Myrtles, Willow Oaks, and Crabapple. Each is a 3-gallon nursery stock and approximately 4-5 feet in height.

“Our annual tree giveaway is part of our ongoing commitment to re-establishing shoreline vegetation, controlling erosion, protecting water quality, and enhancing fish habitat,” said Billy Chastain, Dominion Energy South Carolina Manager of Lake Management. “Additional trees along the shore can also improve Lake Murray’s overall beauty.

”The Shoreline Habitat Enhancement Project is a cooperative effort between Dominion Energy, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and lake interest groups. For more information on the Habitat Enhancement Project, call Dominion Energy’s Lake Management Department at 803-217-9221.
