Home heavily damaged by fire in Batesburg-Leesville Thursday morning

Batesburg-Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – A single family home in the 400 block of South Bethlehem Road in Batesburg-Leesville was heavily damaged by fire Thursday morning. Firefighters from Batesburg-Leesville and Lexington County responded to assist with the fire. The fire was reported just before 11:30 a.m.

When the first fire trucks arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames pushing out the windows of the home. A water supply was established and as more career and volunteer firefighters arrived, they began their operations to put out fire. With the firefighters working together, they had the bulk of the fire knocked down in a short time.

A crew was on the scene from Lexington County’s EMS as was officers from the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department. They assisted with the safety of the teams fighting the fire.

Even though the fire was out, teams stayed on the scene several more hours ensuring all the hotspots were out so the fire wouldn’t rekindle. According to a spokesman for the Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department, no injuries resulted from the blaze. The residents of the home were displaced by the fire and will be staying with family members.

The fire caused significant damage to the home and an investigation into its cause is underway.
