One arrested after discharging firearm near school bus stop Wednesday

Dixiana, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has arrested Deaundre Quintrell Scott, 22, who has been charged with two counts of pointing a firearm at another person, and one count of unlawful carry of a firearm after an incident near a bus stop in Dixiana Wednesday morning. This is according to arrest warrants issued by a judge for the LCSD.Witnesses on the scene say that Scott drew a firearm after a verbal confrontation with a parent who had a child boarding the bus at the stop.

The parent said that almost daily, Scott would pass the stopped school bus in his Camaro while the children were boarding it in the morning. Wednesday morning, something occurred that made Scott stop abruptly. That’s when one of the parents yelled at him and said he needed to slow his car when the children were loading and unloading. He also reminded him that it was illegal to pass a stopped school bus.

At this point, Scott exited his vehicle and words were exchanged between the parent and him. According to a parent and at least one other witness, Scott drew a handgun and fired it multiple times in a direction that was away from any of the adults or children. Deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department were notified, but before they arrived, Scott fled on foot. After a short search by deputies, he was taken into custody.

According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Scott was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center where he was formally charged. He was still being held in the Lexington County Detention Center Thursday morning.
