Art Honor Society brings ‘monsters’ to life

Lexington, S.C. — To celebrate the end of the school year, students at Lexington High School finished up a colorful, ‘monster’-ous project with younger students.

Students in LHS’s National Art Honor Society took drawings created by students in Mrs. Derrick’s kindergarten class at New Providence Elementary School and brought them to life. With the kindergarten drawings in front of them, LHS artists recreated the monsters with fabric and batting, making them into cuddly friends for the NPES students to keep.

LHS students began the project in early April during NAHS club meetings, with several attending extra meetings to finish their monsters. Faculty sponsor Candace Cannon says her students wanted to give back to the community in a different way by combining service with their passion for art.

Other artistic projects completed by LHS students include selling handmade ornaments and dish towels, with proceeds going to charity.
