Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – According to Captain Adam Myrick of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Lexington County now has a confirmed case of the COVID-19 coronavirus. This case was discovered when a resident of LMC's Extended Care Skilled Nursing Facility began showing the signs and symptoms of the virus, according to the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control. DHEC has said that they are working with the facility to identify all contacts and providing guidance about infection control. Currently, several facilities that care for our vulnerable senior citizen population have curtailed visits and are adding extra precautions to keep their residents safe.
If you have a loved one in an Assisted Living or a Long-Term Care Facility that provides skilled nurses care, you should call ahead before planning a visit. This will allow you to better understand what type of restrictions are in place before you make the trip to visit a resident. As always, universal precautions should be taken before you go. You can find a list of those by clicking this link. (Universal COVID-19 precautions)
