West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – West Columbia’s popular Kinetic Derby Day has been postponed. It was scheduled for April 25, 2020.
This would have been the third anniversary of the festival and soapbox derby. Each year the streets of West Columbia filled with art, kinetic floats, soapbox racing, and thousands of people gathering together. With all the unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus, the thousands of people gathered together is the problem. It has been suggested that everyone limit human-to-human contact and avoid any situation where there are more than ten people gathered at the same place at the same time.
The organizers of this festival have not cancelled it yet. Its official status is postponed. This gives the thousands of people who’ve enjoyed it hope that the Kinetic Derby Day will still be held sometime this year.
Many longstanding festivals and gatherings are already canceling even though they are a month or more away. This is because there is substantial planning and cost associated with these.
We will update you when the Kinetic Derby is rescheduled.
