Gaston man charged in stabbing

LEXINGTON, S.C. – Lexington County deputies have arrested and charged a man accused of stabbing a man Thursday night at a Gaston home.

John Darrick Rumph, 49, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.

“Detectives who responded to the scene of the stabbing on G & K Court have determined Rumph got into a fight with a man before stabbing him,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Based on their investigation, Rumph stabbed the man in the leg with a large knife.”

The men also fought at another location approximately 30 minutes before the stabbing, according to Koon.

“The victim was airlifted from the scene with a severe injury,” Koon said. “The first deputy on the scene provided life-saving measures before EMS arrived. His medical team tells us he’s in stable condition after emergency surgery.”

Rumph was arrested at the scene and transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.
