UPDATE: Road in Oak Grove community closed Monday because of truck wreck

Oak Grove, SC (Paul Kirby) 10:17 a.m. – A major road in the Oak Grove portion of Lexington County was closed Monday morning because of an overturned logging truck. The collision happened on Mineral Springs Road. There were roadblocks setup at Oak Drive and Jessamine Road by law enforcement to limit access to the accident scene. The collision happened at approximately 9:20 a.m. Monday morning.

The first firefighters from Lexington County reported that the truck was on its side in the woods. Callers advised that the truck’s driver was trapped in the cab of the truck. A battalion chief got on the scene and confirmed that, saying the man couldn’t self-extricate. The fire service, in cooperation with EMS personnel, worked about 20 minutes before they were able to remove the driver from the cab. He was immediately packaged and transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There is a small creek nearby and diesel fuel was spilling from the overturned truck’s tanks and running downhill into the creek’s water. A Hazardous Materials truck was requested and it arrived quickly. Crews from that team worked to protect the creek and stop the leaking fuel. DHEC was notified.

The SCDPS Public CAD showed that the road remained closed until the afternoon. The wreck is under investigation by the SCHP.
