West Columbia detectives investigating shooting Sunday afternoon

West Columbia, S.C. (Paul Kirby) – Detectives with the West Columbia Police Department are looking into the shooting of a man Sunday afternoon in the 1900 block of Augusta Road. This is close to the intersection of Greenwood Road and the business called German Autowerks.

According to Assistant Chief Scott Morrison, spokesman for the department, one male was taken to a local hospital after he was hit. He said the man’s wound appeared to be non-life threatening.

Morrison said the detectives currently believe that two men had a disagreement over something. It began as an argument that quickly escalated. At some point things got physical. One of the men eventually produced a gun and fired a round that hit the other man in the leg, according to the chief.

Chief Morrison said later Sunday evening that the detectives were in the very early stages of this investigation. “The man that was shot is being treated,” stated Morrison. “We have a lot of statements to take and a crime scene to process. We are asking anyone who has firsthand knowledge of this incident to call our department and ask to speak with one of our investigators,” Chief Morrison concluded. Their number (803) 791-0721.
