Mike Sturkie files to run for State House District 88

Lexington, SC, March 23, 2020– Republican Businessman, Michael “Mike” Sturkie has officially filed for State House District 88. District 88 has been represented by Mac Toole who is not seeking re-election.

After filing Sturkie said, “I spent the last few weeks talking with family, friends, and members of the community about running for office and have decided after much prayer, that I will seek the Republican nomination for House District 88. I am a lifelong resident of this community and my family’s roots here go back over 150 years. I love this community and want to give back and serve Lexington County, which has been such a blessing to myself and my family. I want to continue the legacy of service that Mac Toole has given District 88 by making our community a great place to live and raise a family.”

When asked why he decided to run, Sturkie said, “For me, this is personal. I have seven grandchildren with one on the way and this is about them, and the future of all our children. I’ve been fortunate to have started a successful business here that has grown to one of the top site development/recycling/landfill operations in South Carolina. I will bring that common-sense, business mentality to the State House. We need experienced leadership at the State House and people who know how to get things done.

Above all, I’m guided by my Christian faith, conservative values, and protecting and upholding the constitution. As a state representative I will protect life, protect our right to keep and bear arms, and expand our freedoms by limiting government. We’ve got to fix our roads, bring business and jobs to District 88, support our teachers, and keep families safe. I’ve got the background and experience to do just that and I’m looking forward to sharing my vision on the campaign trail with voters.”

Lastly, Sturkie wanted to remind folks to stay safe and stay healthy: “The Coronavirus is serious, and I hope everyone will heed the advice of medical professionals by taking every necessary precaution. Americans are a strong and resilient people and I know we will get through this together as a community and as a nation. Check in on your older loved ones and those at higher risk. Stay safe and God Bless.”

Mike Sturkie started S&T in 1988, expanding into recycling in 2001. Married to Kathy Williams in 1982, they have raised three daughters: Kelly Alexander of Red Bank, Karla Sturkie of Lexington, and Katelyn Price of Redbank. Mike and Kathy, a Lexington 1 Teacher, attend Trinity Baptist in Cayce and have 7 grandchildren with an 8th expected in August. For more information please visit www.MikeSturkie.com.
