Cayce officers arrest three after slow-speed chase early Saturday

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – Police with the Cayce Department of Public Safety have arrested three men after a keen-eyed officer saw the trio circling the Avenues neighborhood in a vehicle, and acting in a suspicious manner, very early Saturday morning. This all occurred in the area of Jessamine Street in the eastern portion of the city close to the Congaree River and Axtell Drive. The men were driving in circles aimlessly between 3:00 - 4:00 a.m. and appeared as if they had no destination and were looking for something.

According to 1st Sgt. Evan Antley, an officer noticed that the men were driving around in the area and began to follow them. Eventually, the driver committed a violation that gave the officer probable cause to initiate a stop. When he activated his warning devices on his cruiser, instead of stopping, the suspects continued driving, although they never accelerated over about 60 mph. They went a short distance before the vehicle they were driving stopped and the three men bailed out, fleeing on foot.

Additional Cayce officers, assisted by others from different jurisdictions like the Town of Springdale PD, flooded the area and set a perimeter in hopes of boxing the men in. A K-9 was brought to the scene to begin tracking. Eventually, the three were found and detained.

According to 1st Sgt. Antley, as officers were looking through the vehicle to inventory it before it was towed, they located multiple cell phones that did not belong to the men. They also recovered at least one firearm during the incident. They all were then placed under arrest.

All three men have been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. The three face a multitude of charges. They will eventually face a judge during a bond hearing. The three have not been identified by the Cayce Department of Public Safety.
