Lexington County deputies respond to man shot near Charleston Hwy. and I-26 between Dixiana and Gast

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting Sunday night around 8:00 p.m. The first location for the victim was given as the convenience store and fuel station near the Charleston Highway and the I-26 interstate off-ramp between Dixiana and Gaston. Lexington County EMS and firefighters also responded.

Although there is very little information on what transpired at this point, we do know that the victim was supposedly shot in the vicinity of one of the El Cheepo’s stores. There are several of these including one another exit down the interstate. Depending upon the location, this may be in Calhoun County’s jurisdiction. The victim said after he was shot, he had a family member come, pick him up, and drive him to another store where they stopped just off the interstate’s ramp to call for help.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement officers from one of the two counties will work this case depending upon the location of the shooting scene and jurisdictional boundaries. Investigators will try and locate the shooter and any witnesses and gather additional details and evidence regarding this incident while piecing together what actually happened
