Springdale police officer’s cruiser struck after short vehicle pursuit before foot chase

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – A Springdale police officer pursued a vehicle in his cruiser and then had to bail out and chase several suspects on foot after officers with Cayce spotted a car reportedly involved in a breach of trust Monday morning. Because the car was out of Cayce’s jurisdiction when they spotted it, that department notified Springdale’s dispatch and the SPD officer almost immediately saw the white car and fell in behind it on or near Boston Avenue. This all happened just before 6:00 a.m. Once the Springdale officer activated his warning lights and siren, the driver of the car failed to stop, initiating the pursuit.

The vehicle chase lasted for about a mile before the driver stopped and he and several females jumped out running on foot. This was all in the vicinity of Lexington Avenue, the traffic circle, and Midlands Technical College. At some point, the car that fled hit the Springdale officer's cruiser causing unspecified damages to it. The SC Highway Patrol is enroute to investigate that collision.

The driver ran on foot toward the Airport Expressway (John Hardee) from the Lexington Avenue area. Several females also bailed and ran with the man who was driving. One is being described as wearing white shorts and a pink blouse. All appear to be Caucasian.

One female is detained. She has told the officers she doesn’t know who the others were in the car. Later, they were able to obtain the driver's identification.

Apparently, this all started in the Cayce area and ended in the Springdale area. We will try and update this as more details become available.
