Lexington Police Department wants to remind parents and motorists about safety in Lexington’s neighb

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington Police Department often receives complaints about speeding in many areas. Many of these come from the residents in the 80 or more neighborhoods within the Town of Lexington. The Department wants every driver to remember that traffic laws apply in these areas just as they would on a major highway.

In a post on social media, officers reminded motorists to slow down when in neighborhoods and completely stop for all stop signs. They also said that drivers need to be mindful of the other vehicles who also share the roadway.

According to the police, while everyone is home right now, they are hearing about small children being left outside to play unsupervised by their parent or guardian. Officers want to remind the public that this can be an unsafe practice, especially for the younger children. They always want adults to keep a close eye on children. Officers, many of whom have children of their own, certainly don’t want anything to happen to a child. They know that children need playtime outdoors, but they ask the adults to ensure they are being safe as well.

In closing, the department said that safety within their neighborhoods is always a high priority focus. They are asking that residents and drivers all work together to ensure these areas remain safe.
