Detectives in the early stages of a shooting investigation in the Cayce/West Columbia area

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Police officers and personnel from the West Columbia Fire Department and Lexington County EMS responded to treat a shooting victim in the 1000 block of Brookwood Circle early Friday morning. The medical personnel treated and transported a man with a gunshot wound to an upper extremity.

Since this shooting incident is in its very early stages, few details have been released. Police have not said if the man was shot at the Brookwood address. It appears as if he was wounded somewhere else and then fled the scene to the location he was transported from by ambulance. It is believed that investigators have an idea of the suspect’s identity although they have not said whether that individual has been arrested.

All indications are that the man who was shot and the shooter were acquainted, and this was not some random act. Residents in that area should not be alarmed if they saw emergency equipment in that neighborhood. Again, it appears the shooting may have occurred at another location.
