Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on private property Friday morning. The accident left a vehicle in a pond off Martin Neese Road near Swansea. There is one survivor from the crash and one person has passed.
The Lexington County Fire Service and EMS were both dispatched to reports of a vehicle in a pond Friday morning. When the first responders arrived, they found that one person had escaped and the other was still missing. They requested that a Lifenet medical helicopter launch in hopes that they would locate a victim that would require transport to a trauma center. The Sheriff’s Department’s Dive Team was dispatched as was the fire service’s swift water rescue team. They eventually discovered that the other person was still in the water and was deceased.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher personally responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. She is well-known for her ability to compassionately meet the needs of a victim’s family and friends after these types of tragic incidents. She will not release any details of the accident or the name of the deceased until all family members of the victim have been notified.
The results of the investigation will hopefully be released by the sheriff’s department after their investigation is complete. At this point, it doesn’t appear as if this was anything more than a very tragic accident according to a reliable source.
