Fairview, SC (Paul Kirby) – A home in the 3800 block of Calks Ferry Road caught fire Wednesday afternoon just before 4:00 p.m. Firefighters from the southwestern portions of the county responded to assist in putting the fire out.
Upon arrival, the first crew reported they had smoke showing. As they entered the home, they immediately found a civilian that had been overcome. That person was removed from the home and eventually handed off to a Lexington County EMS crew which had responded to the fire. This is standard procedure on structure and other large, working fires. There were fears that several more people were trapped in the home. Additional ambulances responded in the event they were located and needed medical attention too.
Firefighters discovered a small fire they reported was in the kitchen. That was quickly extinguished. The home was damaged by smoke throughout and although it should be salvageable, it may be uninhabitable for some time.
Lexington County hasn’t released the number of patients their EMS crews transported from the scene. They also have not released the exact cause and origin of the fire or an estimate of monetary damage that was done to the home.
