Lexington County agencies receive Senior Feeding grant during COVID-19 crisis

Lexington, SC – The Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission (LCRAC) and the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission are both part of a grant program in coordination with Senior Resources in Richland County. These agencies found out late last week that a large donation by a private funder was recently received. It will help alleviate hunger for many seniors, most of whom are on fixed incomes. These senior citizens often don’t have enough food for nutritious meals every day.

The grant will provide 10,000 Emergency Senior Meals per week for six weeks in Lexington County during the COVID -19 crisis. These meals are for those 60 years and older that do not already receive meals through either of the LCRAC or the ICRC's nutrition programs like Meals on Wheels.

The process of obtaining the meals is simple. The senior citizen either drives up or has a family member or friends drive them to one of the 13 pickup sites across Lexington County. The senior must show a valid ID. Then, they will receive a pack of five meals for the week.

The 13 locations are listed on the LCRAC’s website at www.lcrac.com. That list is also in printable for by clicking on this LINK.
