Lexington County deputies recover body after boat found adrift

Lake Murray, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department had deputies, its dive team, and marine patrol on Lake Murray early Tuesday after a boat was found adrift near Dominion Energy’s boat ramp on the Irmo side of the dam. They received the original call regarding the boat with no operator onboard at approximately 6:40 a.m.

According to the sheriff’s department, they had multiple units searching in and around the area of the launch for the missing boater. At about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, they reported that they had located a male that was deceased in the waters of Lake Murray. He is believed to be the boat’s missing operator.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office will now take over. She will oversee the investigation into the man’s cause and manner of death. She will also take care of notifying his family. She will not release the identity of the boater until after that has been done.

We will update this situation when we receive additional information from the LCSD, the SCDNR, or the coroner’s office.
