Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – On Monday, May 4, 2020, officers from the Swansea Police Department were joined by officers from Pelion and Springdale as they served a warrant. The warrant was obtained after finding adults using marijuana with children in a home during an investigation into a case of littering. Earlier in the day, a person living there had thrown a grocery bag full of trash out the window of a vehicle.
While the officers were at the Swansea house following up on the littering traffic stop, officers observed several children inside. According to the police, it was obvious there was a lot of marijuana being smoked in the house while the children were present. When Swansea police officers tried to talk to the homeowner about the incident, they were blown off and told to go get a warrant if they wanted to go any further. Following the suspect’s advice, officers did just that!

Later in the day, Swansea officers executed the warrant on the residence. When they pulled onto the property, one person was on the back porch smoking a blunt, or marijuana cigar. Seven adult subjects were taken into custody. Most were charged with marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Others were also charged with resisting arrest and for warrants that had been previously issued for their arrest.
Catherine Jones, Santana Jones, Sammy Young, Darnell Bolton, Jayln Scott, Travond Deas, and Stepone Garner were all booked into the Lexington County Detention Center to await a bond hearing. Officers say that reports on the adults’ crimes will be forwarded to SC DSS in Lexington County so they can follow up on the children’s behalf.
On social media the Swansea Police Department thanked officers from the Pelion and Springdale Police Departments for their assistance in executing the warrant.
