Lexington County firefighters battle house fire near Oak Grove Tuesday evening

Oak Grove, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters with the Lexington County Fire Service battled a house fire in the Oak Grove area Tuesday evening. The home on fire was in the 200 block of Golden Pond Drive off Mineral Springs Road. The call was dispatched at approximately 6:20 p.m.

When the first firefighters arrived, they advised other equipment and personnel responding that there was smoke coming from the home. They designated this a working fire. The first fire engine arrived on scene and two attack lines were pulled so that firefighters could find and extinguish the flames. A command structure came together as fire officers began to arrive and direct the firefighters on scene. A water supply was established by another fire truck arriving.

The battalion chief in command requested several water tankers be dispatched for additional water and manpower. Another officer began to reassign equipment to fill empty fire stations that had their manpower and equipment on the scene of the Golden Pond fire. This is standard practice to ensure no large portions of the county go unprotected.

Lexington County EMS had an ambulance on stand-by at the scene to assist with firefighter safety and to provide care for anyone who might have been injured during the fight. The utility provider for the area was asked to respond to disconnect the home’s electricity.

The fire was placed under control around 8:00 p.m. The fire was completely out, and the property was turned back over to its owner about an hour later.

Lexington County has not released the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage to the home. No one appeared to be injured as a result of the fire.
