Rep. Joe Wilson (SC) of Lexington County releases statement on house majority leaders announcement t

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Joe Wilson released the following statement in response to Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s announcement that Congress will resume only when the next relief package is available for a vote:

“It is irresponsible for Members of Congress to be home until the next coronavirus relief package is called for a vote. Therefore, I urge Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to bring Members back to Washington so that we can fulfill duties that cannot be done over the phone or via teleconference, such as legislative hearings, briefings, and votes. With guidance from the Attending Physician and only minimal staff, surely Members can conduct official business in a safe manner that follows guidelines from the Center for Disease Control.

“I am committed to fight for jobs in our community and to working for a strong national security. I am grateful to see the benefits the Small Business Administration loans are allowing many businesses to continue providing jobs. I am also committed to our men and women in uniform. We must work to pass bills, such as the National Defense Authorization Act, so that our troops and their families are healthy and safe. Our Armed Forces sacrifice so much every day to protect our country. The least we can do for them is ensuring they have the resources needed for success.”
