Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s chief deputy has released the identity of the individual who died because of a collision following a short law enforcement pursuit Monday night. She did so on behalf of Corner Fisher. The collision occurred in the 4300 block of the 12th Street Extension near Old Wire Road and Nephron Pharmaceuticals just before 11:00 p.m. on May 11, 2020.
According to Coroner Fisher, Quinton J. Nunn, 26, of Blythewood was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision. Nunn attempted to evade a traffic stop after he saw the trooper from the South Carolina Highway Patrol. When Nunn fled, the trooper gave pursuit. A sort distance from where the trooper originally encountered him, Nunn lost control of the vehicle that he was driving, crossed the median, left the roadway, and collided with several trees, according to the coroner. Fisher said that Nunn was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred.
The SCHP had been called to the area due to a citizen’s complaint about drag racing. This is not the first time law enforcement has been notified of this type activity in that general area. Several weeks ago, police officers were asked to respond to a report of the same behavior in the vicinity. Officers responded, but the racing was taking place outside their jurisdiction. By the time the appropriate agency arrived, the racers had gone.
The incident is under investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
