Deputies investigating armed robbery of convenience store near Dixiana and I-26

Dixiana, SC (Paul Kirby) – Deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of an armed robbery of the Pitt Stop convenience store located at 125 Rolling Meadows Lane early Wednesday morning. The call reporting this holdup came in just before 4:30 a.m. on May 13, 2020.

The Pitt Stop is just off I-26 at exit 119. This is between Dixiana and Gaston close to the Calhoun County line and DAK Americas, the former Carolina Eastman Company.

An employee of the store called to report that a black male with dark skin wearing a navy-blue hoodie and dark pants robbed the business. Although the man did not present a weapon while in the store, that does not prevent law enforcement for classifying this an armed robbery. By simply threatening employees and saying he was armed during the commission of the robbery, it makes the crime more urgent and may enhance charges once he is apprehended.

The telecommunicators with the sheriff’s department quickly began broadcasting requests to surrounding law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect. This was done within moments of them receiving the call. Although the description of the suspect given by the caller was brief, more may be available after investigators arrive and start their work. This may come from the store’s surveillance system or employees and witnesses after the adrenaline from fear that occurs when something like this happens has passed.

This crime is in the earliest stages of the investigation. The sheriff’s department may release more as they work to find the suspect. We will update if more information becomes available.
