Summit, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspicious fire at a Summit church this week. The fire at St. James Lutheran Church near the Summit Park was received by Lexington County’s 911 center through the building’s automatic fire alarm system.
When fire trucks and their crews arrived, they found that the doors to the Fellowship Hall were on fire. They quickly extinguished the blaze but damage to the building had already been done. The foyer of the Fellowship Hall will require extensive repairs or replacement.
Within moments of extinguishing the fire, the battalion chief from the fire service recognized that the blaze was suspicious in nature. He had his dispatcher notify the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and deputies responded.
