One killed in Pelion collision

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – One person is dead following a single-vehicle collision near Pelion Tuesday night. According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell of the SCHP, the crash occurred around 8:14 p.m. on Bub Shumpert Road near Hartley Quarter Road.

Lexington County Sheriff's deputies, personnel from Lexington County EMS, and first responders from the fire service were dispatched to the wreck. Two patients were transported from the scene to Prisma's Palmetto Health Richland's Trauma Center for advanced treatment of their injuries.

Cpl. Tidwell said that the vehicle involved in the collision was a Honda Passport. It was travelling south on Bub Shumpert Road with the driver and a passenger in the front seat. Both of these people were wearing their seatbelts. There was a passenger in the back seat too. At some point, the driver of the Honda lost control of the vehicle, went off the side of the road, and struck a tree before the vehicle overturned. The backseat passenger had no seatbelt on and was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher ‘s office had team members on the scene investigating the deaths. She will be responsible for identifying the victim once the family has been notified of their loved one’s death. The SCHP is investigating the wreck.
