Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Swansea Police Department has taken a man into custody after he assaulted a woman who was the mother of his child. The suspect, who has not been identified to protect the mother and child’s identity, fled the scene after the assault occurred.
The incident happened at the Elm Creek Apartments in town. The suspect was later captured in the area of Tickle Weed and SC Hwy 6.

According to police, the suspect left the victim with several swollen areas to her face and head. Her eyelid was split on both the top and bottom. Her injuries required medical attention
Just prior to the arrival of officers, the suspect fled the scene on foot. With help from other municipalities and Lexington Sheriff’s Department, a perimeter of the area was established. Lexington County Sheriff’s Department K-9s were dispatched to the scene. The K-9s were able to quickly pick up the suspect’s scent. He was successfully tracked and apprehended. The suspect was treated by LCEMS for minor injuries before being transported to the Lexington County Detention Center. He faced a bond hearing the next day.
