Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – The SC Highway Patrol says that one person is dead following a collision on SC Hwy. 6 just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning. According to the patrol, the crash happened close to the Hwy. 6 and Blackville Road intersection.
Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell, speaking on behalf of the SCHP, said a Chevrolet pickup and a Nissan were both driving on Hwy. 6 when one drifted across the center line of the road and the two collided. Tidwell said that due to the extensive damage to both vehicles, they have not been able to determine which vehicle was travelling in what direction. The occupant of the truck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Lexington Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tidwell said that the SCHP’s M.A.I.T. team was investigating the accident. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office had deputies on the scene investigating the exact cause of death. She will release the decedent’s identity once all notifications have been made.
