Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A large police presence in the parking lot of the 14 Carrot Whole Foods Wednesday had the Lexington community wondering what all the fuss was about. The rumor mill also kicked into high speed with people asking the staff of The Lexington Ledger about a murder/suicide and even a multiple shooting incident that began in the county and ended in the town.
Thursday morning, Corporal Cameron Mortenson of the Lexington Police Department was asked, and his response was, “Check with LCSD. I don't think the incident that ended at 14 Carrot involved any gun activity and our officers assisting deputies. Not lead agency.”
We then asked Captain Adam Myrick with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department about the situation at the 14 Carrot Whole Foods Store and rumors that it was somehow connected to a shooting on Old Orangeburg Road. He quickly replied, “No GSW (Gunshot Wound). Had a suspect initiate a rather brief pursuit that ended at 14k.” (14 Carrot Whole Foods) Captain Myrick did not say what the fleeing driver had done. We are checking into that now.
After noon Thursday, Lexington County Sheriff's Department advised that the South Carolina Highway Patrol was the lead agency and that they had arrested 53 year old Anthony Lamont Tucker. Mr. Tucker has been charged with DUI 1st offense, Driving Under Suspension, Striking Fixtures on or adjacent to the Highway, and Failure to Stop for Blue Lights. Tucker was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where he will remain until he sees a judge to have bond determined.
Even though the pursuit ended in a way that may have seemed spectacular, it was apparently just another day in the life of our Lexington County law enforcement officers.
