Lexington woman who stabbed her father charges now upgraded

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - A Lexington woman who was recently accused of stabbing her father has now had the charges against her upgraded. She is now charged with murder after her father died from his injuries.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Monday that Geri Oswald, 22, stabbed her father multiple times in the upper body with a large kitchen knife. This took place just over two weeks ago on June 1, 2020. The incident occurred at their home in the 200 block of Bailey Island Circle off Barr Road near Rawl Road in an area of the county known as Round Hill. Investigators have not said why she stabbed her father.

Gerald Oswald, the father, died over the weekend in the hospital where he had been since the incident happened.

The night the stabbing occurred, investigators say that Gerald Oswald was still able to call neighbors and ask for help. Those neighbors called 911. EMS, deputies, and firefighters rushed to the scene. An advanced Life Support Unit rushed Oswald to the Trauma Center at Prisma Health’s Palmetto Richland Campus where he was listed in critical condition until June 13, 2020, the day he passed.

Now that her father has died, Geri Oswald’s charges have been upgraded to murder. She had already been charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Geri Oswald is still sitting in the Lexington County Detention Center after bond was denied. No one has said when her next court appearance has been scheduled.
