Mac Toole endorses RJ May in HD 88 Runoff

Lexington, S.C. - As voters in House District 88 get ready to go to the polls on Tuesday, retiring State Representative Mac Toole made his choice known Sunday.

“Throughout my years as your State Representative, my motto has always been, ‘Do the right thing for the people of Lexington County’,” Toole said. “Once again, I am moved to answer that call. That’s why I am endorsing RJ May for State House of Representatives in Tuesday’s runoff election.”

May said he was grateful for Representative Toole’s service and endorsement. “Mac has been a conservative reformer in the State House. I look forward to carrying on his fight against the corrupt good old boys and their misdeeds.”

“I had always planned to remain neutral in the race for House District 88. I know I have friends supporting both candidates, and I pray after Tuesday’s election those friendships remain.

“As your State Representative, I never let any big business, special interest, or political party push me into doing something that wasn’t good for District 88. I never made decisions based on an issue’s popularity. I voted based on what I felt was right for our citizens and our state. I know RJ will carry on my legacy of conservative reform by doing what’s right for us.

“Having worked inside the State Legislature, I know firsthand how committed one must be and how hard they must work to bring conservative reform to Columbia. As the former executive director of the South Carolina Club for Growth, our state’s leading conservative watchdog, I know RJ is up to the task.

“RJ and I are both passionate about similar issues and his plans to fix them match well with mine. His approach to fighting the good old boy system that has held our state back for so long is similar to mine. And his reasons for wanting to serve are similar to mine, too.

“RJ knows how the General Assembly operates, he knows the tricks they play, and who we can count on, and who we can’t.

“He also has a good relationship with Senator Katrina Shealy, with whom I have worked very closely to enact beneficial legislation for HD 88. I know RJ will carry on that working relationship for the benefit of our residents.

“For these reasons and more, I am voting RJ May for State House on Tuesday. I hope you join me in sending a conservative reformer to Columbia. But rest assured, no matter who is elected, I will be ready to help either candidate with a quick and smooth transition so that your voice in Columbia continues without interruption.”
